Read More	Hingham American, Hingham, MT, 7 Apr 1927 William J. Jones Tuesday afternoon, April 5, at 2:45 o'clock, marked the passing of our esteemed friend and neighbor, William J. Jones, into the Great Beyond. The deceased, enjoying robust health throughout his active life, sustained a slight stroke in the fall of 1924, and despite all effort to regain his former health, suffered a more severe stroke early last fall which affected his memory and limbs. The third and final stroke, occurring Friday forenoon, left him in a state of coma from which he never regained consciousness. Mr. Jones was born March 25, 1868, in the city of Nuglitz, in the state of Mahren Osterried, Austria-Hungary. He came to this country at the age of 12 with his parents, John and Rosaline Ruth Jones, and with six children, located on a farm eight miles west of Herron Lake, Minnesota. At the age of 18 he left home for New Ulm, Minnesota, where he acquired the miller trade, and being dissatisfied with this calling, he entered the barber profession and established his first shop at Herron Lake in 1885. On the 20th of June, 1887, he was united in marriage to Eva May McNair, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which union was blessed with ten children, three of whom died in infancy. After 28 years of continuous residence at Heron Lake, he disposed of his barber shop there and came to Montana in 1914, and filed on a homestead 22 miles south of Hingham where he and family lived until the spring of 1926 when they moved on the Knopes farm southeast of here. He purchased the City Barber Shop in the fall of 1914, and after several years of faithful service, relinquished the shop to his son Alvah a year ago last December. While a resident of this community, he proved a progressive and energetic citizen in the leadership of band organizations and municipal undertakings. He served two successive terms as city mayor, and in the spring of 1924, was largely instrumental in the successful establishment of our City Park, which now adorns and beautifies our little city and to his many Hingham friends will stand as a memorial in honor of his civic pride and loyal citizenship. His religious belief was one in which he ardently trusted. He believed we should work and do our best in all that contributes to the betterment of home and city, and that unfinished tasks will be resumed in the Great World Beyond. He was a peace-loving citizen and lived as one who felt the weight of personal responsibility to his Creator. Those left on this side to mourn his departure are: his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Borden of Farmington, Minnesota, and Miss Evelyn, who is at home; five sons, Walter, William, Alvah, Paul, and Victor, all of whom excepting Paul, who lives in Great Falls, reside here. Two sisters, Mrs. F. T. Winkler, of Hingham, and Mrs. J. P. Wallace of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and a brother, Richard, who resides at Rochester, Minnesota. The funeral services were held in the Woodmen hall Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Bickle, of Havre, officiating under the direction of the Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges of Hingham, a ritualistic work of which was beautiful and impressive. The members of the lodge marching in double columns followed the hearse to the Union cemetery where the remains of Brother Jones were laid to rest. The casket was literally covered with flowers sent by the Odd Fellows, Rebekah, Woodmen, and Royal Neighbor lodges of this city, by the Town Council of Hingham, and by friends who wished to pay their last tribute of love and respect to him who had so recently been with them. Farewell comrade and Brother, a little while and all of us will join in the Great Caravan which bears us through the Valley of Tears, Sorrows, and Trials, to yon World where Friendship, Love, and Truth will shine brighter.
