Description	:	Eva married Cleo Giltner on November 29, 1916, in Wapello County, Iowa. Cleo Giltner, his wife Eva, and their two children Dorothy and Everett, had driven to Minnesota over Memorial Day week-end to visit their son and brother, Gerald, who was stationed in the army camp at Ft. Snelling. On the way home, on May 31, they were in a head-on auto collision five and one-half miles south of New Hampton, Iowa. It was later learned that Mrs. Giltner was killed instantly, and Dorothy Giltner died without regaining consciousness within a few hours following the crash. ... Read More	Eva married Cleo Giltner on November 29, 1916, in Wapello County, Iowa. Cleo Giltner, his wife Eva, and their two children Dorothy and Everett, had driven to Minnesota over Memorial Day week-end to visit their son and brother, Gerald, who was stationed in the army camp at Ft. It was later learned that Mrs. Giltner was killed instantly, and Dorothy Giltner died without regaining consciousness within a few hours following the crash. Everett lived through the night but died at 6 a.m. the next day. There was an account of the accident published in the "Ottumwa Daily Courier," on Monday, June 2, 1941. At that time, Cleo was in extremely critical condition at a New Hampton hospital, and it was not certain that he would live. According to the newspaper account, Eva was employed in, "a downtown building," before her death. She was survived by her husband; her son Gerald; and three brothers, L.O. Carter, Ottumwa route 7; Henry Carter and John Carter of Ottumwa; three sisters, Mrs. Elmer Handy, Mrs. Roy Young, and Mrs. Charles Young, all of Ottumwa; and her mother, Mrs. F.D. [sic] Carter of Ottumwa. There was a notification of the triple funeral service for Eva, Everett, and Dorothy, in the "Ottumwa Daily Courier," of Tuesday, June 3, 1941. The funeral was to be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Reece funeral home, with Orville Smith in charge of the services. The United States Army was sending a guard to the funeral from Ft. Snelling. Pallbearers for Eva were to be Harry Carter, William Carter, Emmett Humble, F.M. Humble, Charles Humble, and Clyde Carter.
