SAULER AT WEST POINT ____ Funeral Services Held at St. Edward Catholic Church ____ Eva Walter was born October 28, 1843, at Zigelhousen by Heidelberg, Germany and died September 8th, 1937, at West Point, Nebraska having reached the age of 94 years, 11 months and 20 days. Death was caused by old age complications. On February 27, 1865, she was united in marriage to Carl Sauler of Helmstad, Germany. To this union four sons were born, two of whom, Gustaf and Herman, with their father preceded her in death many years. She came with her husband to America in the year 1872, locating at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1876 they moved to Alleghany. The family moved to Stanton, Nebraska in 1884, where they resided thirteen years. From Stanton the Sauler family came to St. Edward where Mrs. Sauler made her home until a year ago when she went to make her home with a granddaughter, Hattie Sauler, at Tilden. On the 6th day of August this year she entered St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged at West Point, remaining there until her death. Three years ago Grandma Sauler united with the Catholic Faith which was much comfort to her in her last years. She was a kind and loving mother and very devoted to her family. Many of her friends have gone on before. Services were conducted from the St. Edward Catholic church Friday morning at 9:30 with Rev. Father Mulligan officiating. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Walter and John Sauler, Floyd Philamalee, Harry Witt, Tom Kent, Pete Caharrer [Carraher]. Besides her two sons, Louis and Edward, who live at St. Edward, she leaves to mourn her loss seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One grandchild, Edward C. Sauler of Tilden, preceded her in death of number of years ago. Among the relatives and friends from a distance in attendance at the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Peter Caharrer [Carraher], Walter and John Sauler, all of Tilden; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kent and family of Oakdale; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Philamalee of Loretto; Misses Mary and Alice Sauler of Kansas City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Witt and family of Albion; and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Voight of Tilden. Two nieces, Mrs. Johanna Schlenker and Mrs. W. F. Gain of Kansas City were unable to attend.
