As a lad of 7 years he came with his parents from Pennsylvania to locate in Stanton County, Nebr. where he grew to manhood. In 1897 the family moved to Boone county and located at St. Edward, where Edward and his brother Louis engaged in the blacksmithing business. Louis passed away in 1938 and Edward continued in the shop alone. The Sauler Blacksmith business has been one of the towns best known establishments for more then 43 years. Edward Sauler was united in marriage to Miss Susie Steinbach at Albion on September 16, 1907. She passed away on August 15, 1929. Three daughters survive the parents. They are Gertrude, now Mrs. Floyd Philamalee of Loretto, and the twins, Alice of Los Angeles and Mary at home. There are two small granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews and more distant relatives. Mr. Sauler was stricken Monday night with an attack of angina pectoris, rallying, and apparently recovering when he suffered a second attack about six o’clock Thursday morning, succumbing before medical aid could reach him. Last rites were held from the family home Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Fr. Brady of the St. Edward Catholic church. Burial was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
