Description	:	EVALYN LUCILE AYER was born September 14, 1914, on a farm in rural Decatur, Nebraska. She was the youngest of eight children born to Frank and Florence (Gregg) Darling. She died Sunday, August 30, 2009, at the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years. When she was 9 years old, her family moved to Lyons. She was the youngest of eight children born to Frank and Florence (Gregg) Darling. She died Sunday, August 30, 2009, at the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years. When she was 9 years old, her family moved to Lyons. She attended the Lyons School and graduated in 1933. On September 2, 1933, she was united in marriage to Roy A. Ayer. Five children were born to this union. They farmed in the Liberty community and the Bertha community, before moving to Lyons in 1957. Evalyn was employed at the Lyons School as a custodian for 34 years, where she became known as "Evie." Evie and Roy were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons and were married in the parsonage. They were loyal members of the Mariners at church and enjoyed fellowship with the group. Evie was an elder for the church, a member of Presbyterian Women, a Sunday School teacher, and joined in lots of other groups including Bible studies. She was also a member of Burt County Home Extension Club, serving as president one year. Evie and Roy enjoyed many years of square dancing and playing cards with friends. Rummikub was a favorite game of Evie's, playing yet one more game while she was in the hospital in August. Evie had a lot of hobbies including crocheting and tending her flowers and plants. She always loved flowers and she enjoyed watching the birds out her kitchen window. She was also known for her yummy pies and cinnamon rolls. Evie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy; son, Paul; daughter-in-law, Donna (Miner) Ayer; son-in-law, Darl Beck; granddaughter, Karma (Curtis) Jones; great- grandson, Brandon Paul Jones; and all of her siblings. She is survived by daughters, Junavae and friend, Lauren Hood of Tekamah, Judith of Ralston, Nebraska, Margaret and son-in-law, Larry Curtis of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Nancy of Elkhorn, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends.
