Obituary FLORENCE ETHELYN DARLING, the only child of Dr. WILLIAM B. and MATILDA GREGG, was born August 6, 1869 at Fitchville, Ohio and answered her Master's call 7:45 a.m. Monday, August 24, at the Oakland Hospital, at the age of eighty-four years and eighteen days. Mrs. Darling was in good health, considering her advanced years, until she was stricken in her apartment, in the Mrs. Ida Beck home, on Friday, July 24. She was removed to the Oakland hospital for care but death came early Monday morning. At the age of two years, Mrs. Darling, moved, with her parents from Ohio to Decatur, where she lived all her girlhood years. She attended Decatur public schools, and later Hastings College, preparing to enter the teaching profession. She taught two terms in a rural school west of Decatur. On November 2, 1887, she was united in marriage to FRANK L. DARLING, and they made their home on various farms near Decatur. To this union were born eight children, six of whom are living: (Helen) Mrs. E. D. Beck and Greg, Tekamah; Paul D., Lyons; Mrs. Tillie Weaver, Summersville, Missouri; (Gertrude) Mrs. Virgil Gwyn, Decatur; and (Evalyn) Mrs. Roy Ayer, Craig. A son, Charles, a daughter, Margaret and her husband preceded her in death. In 1924, Mr. and Mrs. Darling retired from the farm, and with their daughter, Evalyn, moved to Lyons. Mr. Darling passed away eight years later, February 8, 1932. "Grandma" Darling, as she was lovingly called by her many friends, was a faithful member and worshipper in the First Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the Golden Circle, serving as the president of this group at the time of her death. She was also a 50 year member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She was a devoted mother, a kind friend and neighbor, and will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends. Her faith in her Savior's love comforted and sustained her during her life and last illness. Survivors include six children, twenty-eight grandchildren, and 45 great grandchildren.
