NODWELL: After an illness of three weeks, Mrs. William O. Nodwell, highly respected resident of Grand Valley, passed away in Lord Dufferin Hospital, on Monday, July 10th. She was in her 76th year. Mrs. Nodwell, the former Lena Byers, was born in Pickering twp. Following their marriage 53 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Nodwell farmed near Marsville until 1936 when they moved to Grand Valley, at which place they have since resided. Mrs. Nodwell was a member of Grand Valley United Church. She was a good and gentle woman, the soul of kindness, a fine neighbour and a devoted mother. Surviving are her husband, William Nodwell, and three children, Mrs. Hiram Hillis (Myrtle); Mrs. Carman Hillis (Beatrice), of Grand Valley, and Mr. Mercer Nodwell, on the homestead, at Marsville. One son, Wesley, predeceased her 12 years ago. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Joe McBride (Ella), of Grand Valley, and three brothers, William and James, of Grand Valley, and Wesley, of Toronto. There are eight grandchildren. Private service was held at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Hiram Hillis, lot 8, con. 10, Amaranth township, at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 12th. Public service followed in Trinity United Church, Grand Valley, at 2:00 o'clock. Interment was made in Union cemetery, Grand Valley. Rev. Gardiner was the officiating minister. At the church, Mrs. J. N. Taylor and Mrs. Wallace Nodwell sang a duet, "The Lights of Home." The pallbearers were six nephews, Morris Nodwell, Henry Nodwell, Elgin Nodwell, Gordon Byers, Garfield McBride and John Byers. The flowerbearers were: Jill Nodwell, Murray Hillis, Mervyn and Lawrence Nodwell, Beverley Hillis, Audrey and Al. LeFauvre, Wilma Rea, Howard McAthur, Orma McBride, Janet Byers, Jas. H. Hillis, T. H. Hillis and Chas. Bourne. The floral tributes were as follows: Pillow, hisband; gates ajar, family; spray, grandchildren; wreaths - Wm. Byers and family; Mrs. Joe McBride and family; baskets, Audrey and Al. LeFeuver, Thelma, Frank ad family, Wes., May., Gordon and Howard Byers, Stella and Jim Hawes, Mildred and Jerry Fatum; sprays, Jim and Annie Byers, Henry, Edna and Alice Nodwell, Mrs. G. Nodwell, Elgin, Evelyn, Mina and Bill; Ada, Jim. T. H. and Reta Hillis, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Platt; Mrs. James Hillis and Lillie, Mr. and Mrs. Carscadden and Dorothy, Hodgsons and McIntyres, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Everson, Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Everson and Carl, Mary and Elmer Hillis.
