Lechtenberger and Clara Jordan Lechtenberger on Oct. 10, 1922, at Ohiowa, and passed away Sept. 30, 2002, at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 20 days. Lechtenberger and Clara Jordan Lechtenberger on Oct. 10, 1922, at Ohiowa, and passed away Sept. 30, 2002, at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 20 days. She was one of eight children in the family. Evelyn grew up in the Geneva area. When she was in high school, she would have to go home right after school to milk the cows, and wash bottles at her dad’s dairy. Evelyn graduated from Geneva High School in 1940. After high school, she taught country school until she married Herb Stoldorf. Evelyn and Herb were married on May 2, 1943, and to them two children were adopted. Herb left for the service ten days after they were married. While herb was gone, Evelyn worked for Elder Jewelry until he returned from the service in January of 1946. They lived on the farm and farmed together until Evelyn had to move to Heritage Crossings in July of 2000. Evelyn was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Congregational Church, and the Women’s Fellowship at the congregational Church, TOPS and Stanton Township Extension Club. Evelyn sewed many shirts and dresses for family members and also loved to knit and crochet. She took great joy in cooking and entertaining family and friends. Birthdays were always a special time for all family members, as Evelyn would make each one their favorite kind of cookie. Everyone has a different story to tell about Evelyn’s baking and cooking of meals for family and workers. The highlights of her life could be summed up as church, family, friends, and an unconditional love no matter what the problem. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph Otto Lechtenberger and Clara Jordan Lechtenberger, brothers, Jack, and Henry Lechtenberger, and triplet grandsons, Adolph, Anton and Albert Stoldorf. She is survived by her husband, Herb; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Patti; daughter Debra; brothers, Melvin, Wes, Bill, and Meryle Lechtenberger; sister, Irene Schelbitzki; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted from the congregational United Church of Christ on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, with Rev. Lynn Strandt officiating. Nancy Cradduck accompanied Delwin Myers, who sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.” Casket bearers were Don Apley Jr., Jim, Dick, Larry, Ron and Adolph Lechtenberger.
