Visitation will be held Sunday, March 18, 2012, from 2 until 4 p.m. at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be at Muscatine Memorial Park, Muscatine, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established in her memory. Evelyn was born in 1920 in Mercer County, Ill., the daughter Benjamin and Ella Ziegenhorn. She married James Irwin Metcalfe on October 22, 1942, in Muscatine. He died in 2001. In early years she worked in her uncle's uniform factory in Muscatine and later she was a day care provider and seamstress. Evelyn was an active member at Grandview Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess; she taught preschool Sunday School and was chairman of the social committee. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Kirk of Rock Island, Joyce and Keith Marshall of Clermont, Fla., Linda and Don Johnson of Bettendorf, Carolyn and John Niers of Davenport, and Marsha and Mark Kriner of Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Whitney of Muscatine; and a brother, Howard Ziegenhorn of Fort Meyers, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, Erma Fowler, Marjorie Sloat and Mary Ricketts, two brothers, Melvin Ziegenhorn and Ernest Ziegenhorn, a son-in-law, Tom Kirk, and a great-granddaughter.
