Description	:	Evelyn Ellen Grey, daughter of Charles E. and Tabitha E. (Robison) Grey, was born October 9, 1921 in Miller, SD. She attended Sunbeam School in Hand County and graduated from St. Lawrence (SD) High School in 1938. Evelyn helped her parents on their farm for three years before entering nurse's training at St. Mary's Hospital, Pierre, SD. (Robison) Grey, was born October 9, 1921 in Miller, SD. She attended Sunbeam School in Hand County and graduated from St. Lawrence (SD) High School in 1938. Evelyn helped her parents on their farm for three years before entering nurse's training at St. Mary's Hospital, Pierre, SD. After graduating with an RN diploma in 1944, she returned to Miller and worked at the hospital there for one year. Evelyn was united in marriage with John H. Dybing at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller on June 24, 1945. The couple made their home in Presho, SD for 12 years before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1957. She worked for a time at Sioux Valley Hospital. Evelyn then transferred to Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital where she worked for 26 years. She had also worked at Worrall Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, both in Rochester, MN. While working, she was a member of the South Dakota Nursing Association. Evelyn had been a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church since 1959. After retiring, she served on the Senior Board and represented the church for six years as a member of the TELL organization. She was also a member of the WELCA. In addition, Evelyn was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the National Volunteer Health Agency and the Friendship Club. She was a long-time member of the Sioux Falls Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, faithfully serving in education and support of people with diabetes, their family and friends. In 1996 she was honored for many hours of dedicated volunteerism by receiving the Golden Rule Award sponsored by JC Penney Company and the Volunteer Information Center. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Johna Lee "Jody" Thornton, Sioux Falls, SD, Randy M. Dybing, Sioux Falls, SD; her granddaughter, Jessica Anne Dybing, Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on July 24, 1981; a son, Lester; and four brothers, Ralph, Lyle, Robert and Lee.
