Description	:	LAUBER, EVELYN LOUISE—Evelyn Louise Lauber was born the first of two daughters to Ray Tibbals Ainsworth and Pearl Elizabeth Lovegrove Ainsworth, on November 10, 1924. She was raised on a farm northwest of Geneva where she attended country school, Districts 14 and 81, through the eighth grade. She grew up with a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins, fostering a strong sense of familial love which stayed with her through the years until the end. She grew up with a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins, fostering a strong sense of familial love which stayed with her through the years until the end. When she died August 9, 1989, at the age of 64, her entire family was with her and she knew this. Evelyn sought to widen her experiences working at the Geneva State Bank after graduation from Geneva High School in 1942. She later studied business at the University of Nebraska. She moved to and worked in Denver, Co., for a short period, returning and working at the Geneva State Bank until May 9, 1948, when she married Claiton Herbert Lauber. This marriage was the foundation. The four children who followed were the building blocks of a life devoted to a strong sense of purpose and betterment. Her children were given the opportunities to widen their experiences and through Evelyn’s encouragement, went on to higher education and to have full and successful lives of their own. Her years were filled doing the things she loved, gardening and landscaping, designing and decorating her homes. She played golf and bridge and always ready to be a gracious hostess to her many friends. Evelyn loved to walk for exercise. On the streets of Geneva she visited with her friends. During the winter over the Florida beaches, she and Claiton spent many enjoyable hours strolling near the ocean. Evelyn and Claiton traveled throughout the United States and to many other countries where she was enthralled with the history and culture of other people. If there were a place off the road in their travels that was different from what she had known before, she would want to stop and see it and come to understand it. She spent much time with her children who lived away from Geneva, and in this provided them with a sense of extended family love. The grandchildren were a delight to her and among them there has developed a great love and caring about each other. She made it a point to gather the family together as often as possible and on the occasion of Evelyn and Claiton’s 40th anniversary the four children organized a wonderful week in the Ozarks. During this celebration, six lively grandchildren were always around her, and with her children hours were spent talking of the roots of the family and the fiber of which they were made. Evelyn was a lifelong member of the Geneva Methodist Church and at her passing a member of the Rebekah Circle, Madre Kensington, PEO Chapter O and was active on the library board. Her sense of organization led to her involvement in many community efforts. Only her father, Ray, passed on before her. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Claiton; mother, Pearl Ainsworth; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Lyn Slepicka and Lon Slepicka of Annapolis, Md., Karyn Jo Nicholson and Steve Nicholson of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Gina Rae Lauber of Bethesda, Md.; son and daughter-in-law, Martin Earl Lauber and Sheri Lauber of Geneva; sister and brother-in-law, Ellen Leora Ainsworth Ewalt and Robert Ewalt of Geneva; her six grandchildren, Alicia and Spencer Lauber, Ashley and Mallory Slepicka, Brooke and Kate Nicholson; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, August, 12, from the United Methodist Church in Geneva with the Rev. Robert L. Harding officiating. Mrs. Norval Lomax accompanied Kelly Eich and Curtis Prater who sang “Nearer My God to Thee” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Those serving as pallbearers were James Brumbaugh, Robert Bailey, Ted Hedden, Darrel Hughes, Don R. Miller and Ivan Nicholson. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal August 17th, 1989 page 5.
