Description	:	Evelyn M. "Ev" Umbach, 80, of Anthon died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital. Services were held Monday, June 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial was in Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home, Anthon. Evelyn Marie Umbach was born January 13, 1929, west of Anthon, the daughter of Lester and Dorothy (Weathers) White. She lived her entire life in the Anthon area. She graduated from Anthon High School. On February 8, 1947, she married Marvin "Pork" Umbach at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon. The couple owned and operated Pork's Anthon Market for 23 years. Pork died September 17, 1985. She also worked, over the years, at the Cozy Inn, Gayla's General Store and the Little Siouxloon. She retired and later returned to work at the Little Siouxloon. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary McNiff Unit 389 of Anthon and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 9124 of Oto, Iowa. She loved the challenge of a crossword puzzle and found pleasure in needle work and embroidery. She was famous for her delicious homemade pies and potato salad. She enjoyed time spent at the casino. She also had a unique collection of rosaries from around the world. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Thomas and Janice Umbach of Anthon, Edward and Christa Umbach of Homeland, California; five daughters, Janice (Mrs. Gary Adkins) of Oto, Iowa, Carla Handke of Anthon, Marilyn (Mrs. Steve Horton) of Sioux City, Sheila (Mrs. Paul Lansink) and Becky Umbach, all of Anthon; a son-in-law, Wayne Fundermann of Anthon; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one on the way; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine McClure of Sioux City; nieces and nephews; and numerous good friends and neighbors. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Diane Fundermann; a brother, Harold "Moe" White; and a sister, Helen White.
