She died at the Gordon Memorial hospital on Sunday evening, Sept. 13 [sic, stone says 16], 1987, at the age of 77 years. She attended Pleasant Hill rural school and in 1920 the family moved to the town of Gordon enabling Evelyn and her sister and brothers to attend public school. She graduated from Gordon high school with the class of 1929. On Dec 20, 1939, she was joined in marriage to Harold E. Thompson at the First Presbyterian church in Gordon. To this union one daughter was born, Jane Diane. Evelyn became a member of the First Presbyterian church and was the church treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Gordon Flower and Garden club, being a charter member and past officer. In 1986 she became a member of RSVP. Evelyn was talented in the art of needlework, with special interests in embroidery, crochet work, tatting, needlepoint and quilting. Her gardening talent was also shared with the giving of floral bouquets, homemade jellies and relishes and other home canned produce. She was very artistic with crafts and enjoyed making titems such as bookmarks, pine cone wreaths and decopauge, all of which were given to family and friends. Evelyn loved gardening and plants and all living things. One of the greatest joys of her life was doing for others. She was always there if anyone needed help with a project and volunteered her services to her friends and neighbors. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Robert in infancy and another brother Ira in 1955. Surviving are her husband, Harold; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Marvin Morgan of Gordon; three granddaughters, Melanie and MeriDee, both of Gordon and Marchelle and her husband Jim Paul and great-granddaughters, Jessica and Jacqueline, all of Jacksonville, Fl. Also surviving are two sisters, Mildred E. Wickwire of Lapwai, ID and Lois M. Abbott of Torrington, WY and a brother Ray, of Lapwai, ID; nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church in Gordon on Wednesday, Sept. 16, with the Rev. Dave Sweley officiating. Organist was Wanda Roth and soloist was Jane Goranson. Pallbearers were nephews, L. D. Smith, Cliff Abbott, Ron Abbott and Cliff McCune, a cousin Larry Swick and a neighbor Wayne Van Matre. Honorary pallbearers were Archie and Elvira Kime and Walt Kime. Burial was at the Gordon cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian church - elevator fund or the Gordon City library. Chamberlain-Gates was in charge of arrangements.
