Evelyn Ruth Olson was born on September 29, 1924, in Pocahontas County, the oldest of four children of Edwin and Ruth (Johnson) Olson. She attended area schools graduating from Pocahontas High School in 1942. She married Everett Ernst on October 10, 1943, in Elfsborg Lutheran Church, Pomeroy. Ernst - age 92, of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the Arlington Place of Pocahontas, Iowa. Evelyn Ruth Olson was born on September 29, 1924, in Pocahontas County, the oldest of four children of Edwin and Ruth (Johnson) Olson. She attended area schools graduating from Pocahontas High School in 1942. She married Everett Ernst on October 10, 1943, in Elfsborg Lutheran Church, Pomeroy. To this union were born four children; David, Nancy, Jane and John. Life-long farmers, Everett and Evelyn resided on farms west and south of Pocahontas, before retiring and moving to town in 1984. Everett passed away on April 14, 2012, after which Evelyn moved to Arlington Place of Pocahontas, where she resided until her death. Evelyn was a life-long member of Elfsborg Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society. She enjoyed reading books, attending to her family, visiting with her sister and brother and playing Tri-onimos with Lois. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Buck of Anamosa and Jane (Larry) Tjaden of Cedar Rapids; son, John (Debbie) Ernst of Lubbock, TX; daughter-in-law, Ginger (the late David) Ernst of Pocahontas; a sister, Lois Schott and a brother, Leo (Ceil) Olson, both of Pocahontas; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett; son, David and sister, Mabel Harrison. Evelyn and Everett were blessed with a growing family, especially their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom enjoyed visiting with their grandparents and great-grandparents.
