She was one of two children born to R.O. and Agnes Harris. Evelyn was baptized June 27, 1919. She grew up in the Newell area and attended the Newell School. On May 5, 1950, Evelyn married John F. Geist at the Methodist parsonage in Newell. This marriage was blessed with a son, Johnny Ray. Evelyn was afflicted with multiple sclerosis for many years of her life, with the last eleven years being very difficult. Although she had a hard and difficult illness, she remained an uncomplaining individual. Evelyn Viola Geist died on February 20, 1980 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center. She was 60. Preceding her in death were her father and her husband. Survivors include her mother, Agnes Harris of Newell; her son, Johnny Ray Geist of Rolfe; her brother, Oscar Harris, and sister-in-law Helen of Newell; three granddaughters; and aunt, Mrs. Myrtle Harris of Newell; and nieces and nephews. We give thanks to God for the life we have shared with Evelyn. We trust that she is now at rest with God, free from the troubles and difficulties of this life
