Oscar Olsen Harris was born June 10, 1915 in Newell to Ray Oscar and Agnes Olsen Harris. He was baptized on July 11, 1915 by Rev. Aug. Faber and confirmed in the the Danish Luthern Church, Newell. He attended school in Newell. Oscar was an adventurer at heart, starting with long haul truck driving, construction work in Alaska and serving his country in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany from 1942 through 1945. He attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded 5 Bronze Stars and Good Conduct Medal. Following his discharge from the Army he worked as an electrician. He took over the family farm in 1948. Oscar enjoyed raising various types of wildlife, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed good times and good food with friends. Oscar was united in marriage to Helen Jensen on March 14, 1942 and to this union were born two daughters, Denise and Susan. Survivors include his wife Helen of Newell; daughters Denise and Lyle Bond, Round Rock, TX and Susan and Fred Holliger, Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, Sara Edgington, Bret Bond of Texas, Meredith, Allison and Lauren Holliger of Arizona and two great-grandsons, Travis and Tyler Edgington of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Evelyn Geist. Oscar was a member of Nain Lutheran Church and American Legion post #193 of Newell.
