Description	:	Everdina Hyink Balkema, daughter of John B. Hyink and Jannetje Nieuwenhuise Hyink was born Nov. 6, 1866, at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was educated in the common schools of that city and in the year 1384 at the age of 17, moved with her parents to a farm near Newkirk Iowa. On June 16, 1887, she was united in marriage to Albert Balkema by the pioneer minister, Rev. Seine Bolks. The young couple took up their residence on a farm in Capel township. In 1897, upon A. She was educated in the common schools of that city and in the year 1384 at the age of 17, moved with her parents to a farm near Newkirk Iowa. On June 16, 1887, she was united in marriage to Albert Balkema by the pioneer minister, Rev. Seine Bolks. The young couple took up their residence on a farm in Capel township. In 1897, upon A. Balkema's election to the office of sheriff, the family moved to Orange City which has been their residence ever since. Always interested in the affairs of the American Reformed Church of Orange City, she was a member of its various organizations, but her chief interest was in Ladies' Mission and Aid Society of that church of which she was an enthusiastic and active member until her sudden passing on Friday, March 31, 1950. She was a member of the Women's Federated Club of Orange City and a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of John Pressman Post No. 329 of the American Legion. Surviving, in addition to her husband are four sons, Peter of Chehalis, Wash., John B. of Sioux City, Ia., Clarence E. of Orange City and Albert Jr. of Detroit, Mich, and three daughters, Nettie of Los Angeles, Calif., Kate Wilson of Batesville, Miss.; and Mrs. Evelyn S. Troutman of Orange City; also eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Of the pioneer John B. Hyink family, she was the only surviving daughter. Three of her brothers survive her: John S. Hyink of Sioux City, la., Henry Hyink of Glendale, Arizona, and Ben Hyink of Sheldon, la. Funeral services were held in the American Ref. church Monday afternoon and burial was in the local cemetery. With the exception of Mrs. Wilson who could not come, all the children were here for the funeral. Sioux County Capital 1950-04-06.
