Description	:	He was born May 31, 1927, in Keokuk, the son of Lillian Russell and Everett Philp Sr. He married Margaret Elizabeth Zinn on Nov. 19, 1950, in Wythe Township, Ill. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2001. He was a 1944 graduate of Donnellson High School. He served in the United States Navy in 1946 and was recalled in 1951. Read More	He was born May 31, 1927, in Keokuk, the son of Lillian Russell and Everett Philp Sr. He married Margaret Elizabeth Zinn on Nov. 19, 1950, in Wythe Township, Ill. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2001. He was a 1944 graduate of Donnellson High School. He served in the United States Navy in 1946 and was recalled in 1951. He moved from the family farm in New Boston to Montrose in 1954, and from Montrose to Donnellson in 1994. He first worked as a mechanic in local garages. He began Philp Insurance Agency in 1958. He purchased the Montrose Hardware Store in 1959. He was a heating/cooling contractor in the 1960s. He was named secretary/manager of People's Mutual Insurance Association in 1969, retiring in 1990. He served on the board of directors of Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company, and the Donnellson Public Library Board. He was a member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge 136 and AF & AM Martha Chapter 5 Order of Eastern Star, both of Montrose, Keokuk York Rite Bodies Scottish Rite Consistory of Davenport, Kaaba Shrine and Keokuk Fez Club. He was a member of the Donnellson United Methodist Church, and had previously been a 40-year member of the Montrose Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed his family, woodworking, traveling and assisting his farm tenant, Larry Brown, with the planting and harvesting. Survivors include: two daughters, Paula Pohren and her husband, Stephen, of Farmington, and Karen Newell and her husband, John, of Ankeny; two sons, Mark Philp and his wife, Mary Ann, of Donnellson, and Doug Philp and his wife, Sue, of Loveland, Colo.; two grandchildren, Chris Pohren and his wife, Terra, and Blythe Philp; two great-grandchildren, Trenton and Evan Pohren; AFS daughter, Bernadette Lanham of New Zealand; a sister, Mary Lou Zinn of Warsaw, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laura Pohren, and a brother, Russell Philp. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Donnellson United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dr. Jim Eads and Barb Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Keokuk. Full military rites will be provided at the graveside by the Gillaspey-Moodie American Legion Post 474 of Donnellson. Visitation is after 1 p.m. Saturday at Hofbauer-Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Montrose Health Center. -From Mississippi Valley Publishing, 7/23/2004
