Funeral rites were held Sunday at the Lewellen Methodist church with burial in the Ash Hollow cemetery. The accident occurred when an approaching truck attempted to pass cars going in the same direction. Mr. Cooper was going the opposite direction and saw that the truck could not make it so he pulled as far off the highway as possible. However, he was still not far enough off the road to avoid collision and the car was badly smashed when the oncoming truck passed over him. He died enroute to an Omaha hospital. He was born April 14, 1928, at Lewellen, the son of Charles E. and Nona Cooper. His early years were spent at Lewellen, but in 1948 he moved to Vancouver, Washington, uniting in marriage to Violet Grahner on August 1, 1950. He entered the army September 12, 1950, and was discharged August 18, 1952. Following his service period he again went to Vancouver, then to Iowa for a short time and in 1952 they moved to Omaha, where he worked for Armour and Co. He later attended mechanics school for 18 months and after completing the course went to Valentine. In September of 1957 the family moved to Valley, where he was working at the time of his death. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cooper, they being, Ronnie, Donnie and Kathleen. Also surviving are his wife, Violet; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Cooper; his grandmother, Mrs. Libby Cooper and Mrs. Luther Tincher; one sister, Mrs. Audrey Smith of Big Springs; three brothers, Carl of Hyannis, Earl of Omaha and Wayne of Lewellen; two nieces; two nephews; and many other friends and relatives. Funeral services were held for the 30-year-old man with full service rites at the cemetery. The color guard consisted of Vernon King, Daryl Mapel, Bill Dettman, Ernest Fischer and Bob Scripter. Rev. Dick Carter had charge of the final rites.
