He attended District 37 rural school, but much of his education and training was at his father's side. He married Nona Tincher December 6, 1923 in Julesburg, Colorado. He attended District 37 rural school, but much of his education and training was at his father's side. He married Nona Tincher December 6, 1923 in Julesburg, Colorado. Six children were born to this union. They worked as ranchers and farmers and being good neighbors. Bump was very active in the youth activities of the community. Being a 4-H leader for over 36 years. Taking members to the 4-H stock shows and the Nebraska State Fair for years. Also to the football and basketball games. He organized a Roping Club in 1944 and served on the Board of Directors. He served on the Garden County Fair Board for 34 years and was still an active member. He carried the American Flag in the Fair Parade for the past 20 years, and was honored in 1981 when they dedicated anew roof over the grand-stand in his name. He was also active in the Garden County Agricultural Society. Was named Grand Marshall for the Garden County Parade in 1982. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lewellen. He passed away Tuesday, December 20, 1988 in the Ogallala Community Hospital after a long and gallant fight with cancer, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 22 days. Funeral services were held 10:30 Friday, December 23, 1988 in the Lewellen Rural High School with Rev. Glen Emert pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Dale Grace, Harold Burdick, Glenn Garton, Vern Kallsen, Bob Caldwell, Bob Olson, Wayne Hardin, Godfrey Pierce, and Larry Hudson. Also all 4-H Members. Active Pallbearers were Bruce Burdick, Rich Paisley, Bob Temple, Roger Magnuson, Larry Magnuson, and Jim Olson. Burial was in Ash Hollow Cemetery in Lewellen under the direction of Holechek Funeral Home. Memorials will be shared with the United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Nona of Lewellen; one daughter, Audrey Cushing of Lewellen; three sons, Carl of Ogallala, Earl of Gering and Wayne of Phillips; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. In 1949 Frank Dugan came to the Cooper home and has since been considered as a member of the Cooper family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Charles and Everette; 3 sisters, 2 brothers, a grandson, and a great-grandson.
