Mrs. Cooper, the widow of C.E. "Bump" Cooper, died Sunday evening, Dec. 3, 2000, at the Lewellen Nursing Home. Internment will be in the Ash Hollow Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the church. She was born Nov. 30. 1905. in Webb. W. Va., the daughter of Luther and Hattie (Burke) Tincher. She came to Nebraska by train with her parents who settled in the Lewellen area in December 1913. She spent the remainder of her life in the Lewellen, Big Springs and Chappell area. Her mother died in 1914, leaving six small children which Nona helped her father care for them. She attended school in the Lewellen area as home chores would permit, graduating in 1922. On Sept. 6. 1923, she married C.E. "Bump" Cooper in Julesburg, Colo. She was baptized in the Baptist Church in West Virginia and transferred to the Lewellen Methodist Church as there was no Baptist Church in Lewellen. She was very active in her church, 4-H activities for 40 years and several clubs. Mrs. Cooper worked at the Lewellen Hospital and Rest Home until her retirement. On April 28, 1995, she entered the Lewellen Nursing Home where she enjoyed being with her friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 20, 1988, two sons, one grandson and one great-grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Audrey and husband James Cushing of Grand Island; three Sons, Carl Cooper of Lewellen, Earl and wife Dianna of Brule and Wayne and wife Sue of Phillips, Neb.; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great grandchildren. Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh is in charge of arrangements. Friend may pay their respects at the church on Thursday.
