Samuels- August 8, 1961 Faye Avanel Griffin was the only child of Tom and Emma Beck Griffin, born August 21, 1921. As was true of many of her cousins, she was born within a few miles of the childhood homes of her parents. She attended Columbia school, where her parents had also gone to school. In 1938, she graduated from Simpson High School as salutatorian, and attended business college in Hutchinson, KS. She began working at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson as a secretary. Later she transferred to the medical record department and following a training period, passed national examinations to become a registered medical record librarian. She was active in the formation of the Kansas Association of Medical Record Librarians in 1947, being one of the charter members, and their first treasurer. She married Gerald Douglas Samuels on August 18, 1951. Gerald was the son of Gilford Douglas and Myrhl DeShong Samuels, born in Eureka, KS on January 6, 1926. Gerald and Faye were married at the Christian Church at Chase, KS. One year later they bought their home at 1528 East 26th were they still reside. They do not have any children. Gerald works in the oil fields, and Faye works at Grace Hospital. Faye's hobbies include sewing, painting, and keeping scrapbooks, one of which was published in 1959 called "Scrapbook for Medical Record Librarians." Gerald's hobbies are hunting and fishing. Faye is a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and Gerald is a member of the First Christian Church, Hutchinson, KS. --- OBITUARY - GLASCO SUN - GLASCO, KS - NOVEMBER 21, 1974 Funeral services for Mrs. Faye Samuels of Hutchinson, KS were held Saturday, November 16 at 1pm in the Emanuel Lutheran church, Hutchinson. Pastor H.O. Lindeblad and Pastor Arthur Angersbach officiated. At 4pm Pastor Wendell Berggren officiated at a graveside service before interment at the Glasco Cemetery. Faye Samuels, 53, had under gone heart surgery at Rochester, MN, earlier this year. She had been recovering until her final illness began the week before her death. She passed away at Hutchinson Hospital South on November 15. ---
