Mr. Wiegers had been in failing health for some time. He was born January 7, 1937, near Rich Fountain, a son of Steven James and Leona (Dill) Wiegers, Mr. Wiegers was united in marriage on October 6, 1962, at Freeburg, to Mary Margaret Welschmeyer, and to this union, three children were born. He was a faithful member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, and was a United States Army veteran. Prior to retirement, Mr. Wiegers was employed in the construction industry, was a mechanic, a truck driver as well as working at the MFA Fertilizer Plant in Freeburg. Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Wiegers include: Two sons, James Wiegers and John Wiegers, both of Freeburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Janelle and Carl Baclesse, Linn; one brother, Robert "Bob" Wiegers, Rich Fountain; three grandchildren, Alora Gentges and husband Logan, Kyra Wiegers, and Kolten Wiegers; one great-granddaughter, Livia Gentges; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on December 30, 2005, and his parents. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Wiegers at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2015, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with Rev. Nicholas J. Reid celebrating. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Sunday, April 19, 2015, with a Prayer Service at 4 p.m. and 9-10 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2015, all in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. Masses or memorial contributions to the Holy Family School, Freeburg, with envelopes available at the Holy Family Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
