Davenport, Iowa "The Democrat" newspaper -- FERGUS FLANAGAN OF WILLIAMSBURG IS LAID TO REST Williamsburg, Iowa, January 21, 1927 - Funeral services were held Monday for Fergus Flannagan, 87, pioneer of Iowa County, whose death occurred in his home here, where he had resided the last 15 years. Funeral services were held in St Mary's church and burial was in St Mary's cemetery. Mr. Flanagan was born in Aldagh, Ireland, 1839, and came to this country at the age of 14 years. In 1867, with two brothers he purchased a section of land in Pilot township and the vicinity has been known as Flanagan settlement. Fifteen years ago he retired from farming and moved to Williamsburg, where he has since lived. He was the last of the Flanagan family and is survived by his wife, one son and four daughters, six children having preceded him in death.
