The daughter of Patrick and Catherine Kane Quinn, she was born November 1, 1855 and baptized November 3, 1855, Brookline, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. Census records indicate the family moved from Brookline, Norfolk County, Massachusetts to Iowa sometime between 1860 - 1870. Census records indicate the family moved from Brookline, Norfolk County, Massachusetts to Iowa sometime between 1860 - 1870. The 1870 Pilot, Iowa County, Iowa Census lists Margaret, age 14, with her parents Patrick "Quin", 38 and Catherine, 38. Her siblings: Thomas, 17; Patrick, 12; Mary, 11; and Martin, 10. All of the children were born in Massachusetts, parents Patrick and Catherine in Ireland. Patrick is a farmer with real estate valued at $1,200. Margaret married Fergus Flanagan in 1875, Iowa. The 1900 Pilot, Iowa County, Iowa Census lists Fergus Flanagan, 61, born in Ireland, immigrated in 1853, a naturalized citizen living in the United States 47 years. His wife Margaret, 44, was born in Massachusetts, and their children are: Kate M, 19; Mary L, 16; Nellie G, 14; Fergus M, 12; Gertrude M, 10; Clara F, 7; and John Q, 2. Margaret died from stomach cancer, heart block is also listed, and senility was a contributory factor in her death, from her Iowa Death Certificate. Sadly her daughter Kate passed away a few days later from breast cancer at age 48. Iowa City Press, August 6, 1929 - FUNERAL FOR MRS FLANAGAN IS HELD AT WILLIAMSBURG-- Funeral services were held at St Mary's church Saturday morning for Mrs. Fergus Flanagan, who died at her home here Wednesday evening at the age of 72 years, following an illness of several months. Requiem high mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father J.A. Glenn of Clinton, former pastor of St Mary's here for 17 years. Mrs. Flanagan was one of Iowa county's pioneers, having lived in the county continuously for 60 years. As Margaret Ellen Quinn she was born in Boston, Mass. November 1, 1856 (Nov 1, 1855). When the family came to Iowa the home was made in Scott County. Here they lived for ten years before moving to Iowa County. In 1974(5) she was married to Fergus Flanagan and the home was continued in Pilot township. Here were born eleven children, five of whom preceded the mother in death. Mr. Flanagan died three years ago. The six children surviving are Kathryn Burns of McClelland, Gertrude Beilstein of Marengo, and Mary, Nell and John of the home. She also leaves one brother, Martin Quinn, of Stuart.
