Her early life was spent growing up at Stanton. The family later moved to Essex, Iowa, where Elaine attended the Essex Community Schools. She graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1941. Following graduation, she attended business school in Omaha. After completing her education, Elaine returned to Essex, working for the First National Bank. On September 1, 1946 Elaine was united in marriage to Marlyn L. Lindburg at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Essex. They were blessed with five children, Alicia, John, Mary, David and Mark. They lived all their married life in Essex and Elaine continued to live in Essex until moving to Windsor Manor in Shenandoah a couple of years ago. In the late 1950’s Elaine started working at the Essex Elevator as a bookkeeper. She retired from the elevator after 31 years. Elaine was an active member of the Faith Covenant Church in Essex, where she taught Sunday and Bible School, sang in the choir and served with the Covenant Women. She was also a member of the Tomorrows Club, Quilters group and the American Legion Auxiliary. Widely known for her baking skills, everyone’s eyes would light up when she got out the cookie tins (not just one – there would be three or four). Elaine’s spritz cookies, ginger snaps, ostaka and rye bread were the best. Her grandkids’ greatest memories are baking, playing games and learning to sew or crochet with grandma. Giving and sharing were a way of life. Elaine’s home was always open to friends and family for a cup of coffee or Sunday dinner (which could be for four or 24!). Preceding Elaine in death were her parents; husband, Marlyn L. Lindburg; sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Wayne) Almquist; and brother, Curt Anderson. Left to cherish her memory are her five children and their spouses, Alicia Johnson and husband Bob of Lampe, Missouri, John Lindburg and wife Joy of Essex, Mary Hamilton and husband Craig of Elkhorn, Nebraska, David Lindburg and wife Mary of Villisca, Iowa and Mark Lindburg and wife Jan of Essex; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brother, Robert G. Anderson of Essex; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Faith Covenant Church in Essex at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jim Ressegieu officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah. Memorials in Elaine's name are being directed to either the Essex Faith Covenant Church or Essex Lied Public Library. Burial will be in the Essex Cemetery.
