Mrs. Palmquist was born January 7, 1906, on a farm northwest of Essex to Charles John Holmes and Elizabeth Johnson. She was raised near Essex and graduated from Essex High School. She received her LPN degree in nursing from Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. She practiced nursing in Omaha and Grand Island, Nebraska and Red Oak. She was united in marriage to C. Clifford Palmquist, June 24, 1951 at Essex. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and was active in Covenant Women at Stanton. She taught pre-school children in Sunday School for several years. She was active in the Senior Center activities and a member of the 20th Century Club, all of Stanton. She loved to read, play the organ and piano. She also knitted and loved to crochet. Memorials are suggested to the Evangelical Covenant Church or Stanton Fire and Rescue. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford, on August 24, 1984; four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, Wendell Palmquist and his wife, LaVonne, of Harcourt, and Ralph Palmquist and his wife, Beverly, of Stanton; daughters, Mary Haubold of Topeka, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray Holmes of Essex, Ted Holmes of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Paul Holmes of Longmont, Colorado; two sisters, Amy Bruland of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and Pauline Frizzle, Omaha; other relatives and friends.
