Coen-Beaty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Ferne Lucille Hyde, daughter of Robert and Sabina Moffitt Hyde was born May 18, 1907 at Villisca. She passed away at the Clearview Home in Clearfield on Nov. 10 at the age of 85 years, five months and 25 days. With the exception of one year in California, Ferne grew up around rural Villisca. At the age of eight, her mother passed away. The family was fortunate to have two sets of aunts and uncles to help with rearing the family. Ferne and her twin sister graduated in 1925 from Villisca. They attended business college in Chillicothe, Mo. Ferne worked in Omaha and Chicago before marrying in 1930 to Floyd Gourley of Morton Mills, a small town north of Villisca. They were parents of Joyce, born in 1931, and Jack, born in 1934. They lived and farmed there before purchasing a farm four miles north of Clearfield in 1938. They lived there until Floyd's death in 1967. Ferne remained on the farm until moving to Lenox in 1971. Ferne was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lenox, the United Methodist Women, Salome Chapter of Eastern Star, the Past Matrons Club and many other clubs. She became a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star after 60 years of being a faithful member. She was initiated into Eastern Star at Villisca in 1931. She served as Past Matron of Cornelia Chapter No. 524 in Clearfield and held offices in Salome Chapter in Lenox. Ferne held many offices in U.M.W. including a district office. She served as treasurer of the Lenox UMW and also as conference representative for many years. Ferne was preceded in death by her mother, father, step-mother, twin sister Fay Porter, husband Floyd, granddaughter Pamela Gourley, and son-in-law Herman Reimer. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Reimer of Afton [the obituary was not finished in the newspaper.] Lenox Time Table, Lenox, Iowa Wednesday November 18, 1992
