She was born on March 5, 1907, to Monroe and Rose (Guyer) Noel in a log cabin near Arcadia, Okla., (prior to Oklahoma's statehood). She was the oldest of six children. On Oct. 20, 1927, she married Oscar Paul Meisner in the "Little Brown Church in the Vale" in Nashua, Iowa. The couple farmed near Elkader, Iowa. Two days before their 20th wedding anniversary, Oscar died of a sudden heart attack, leaving Florence and their four children (Virginia, June, Noel and Faith). During the following years she lived in Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois, and moved to Bozeman in 1973 where she made her home with her daughter (Faith Dredla) and her family until 1996 when she moved to the Shelby House in East Helena and finally to the Gallatin Rest Home in 1999. During her lifetime she worked as a cook, dental assistant, beautician, and hospital nurse's aide/ward clerk. She was talented at the sewing machine, with the crochet hook, knitting needles, and just about any handwork or craft. Her family and friends will treasure forever the handmade gifts which were the results of her many talents. Her cookies, cinnamon rolls, cakes, and bread were beyond description and made even an ordinary meal a celebration. Florence was an example of strength and courage living through the Great Depression, accepting the responsibility of being a young widow and single mother at age 40, and enduring the frailty that accompanied living for almost a century. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar, her parents, two sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her children: June (Paul) Mathison of Preston, Minn.; Virginia (Norris) Larson, Noel (Ellen) Meisner, Faith (Jack) Dredla, all of Bozeman. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Bruce (Beth) Larson of Clarkston, Wash.; Dan (Deb) Larson of Bozeman; Sue (Tim) Richter of Lime Springs, Iowa; Eloise (Gary) Skaggs of Preston, Minn.; Alan (Linda) Mathison of Preston, Minn.; Cathy (Bill) Froyum of Scottsdale, Ariz.; David (Loretta) Meisner of Asotin, Wash.; Teresa (Jason) Parge of Spokane, Wash.; Lorraine (Brad) Stockton of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Constance Larson of Phoenix, Ariz.; Brian Dredla of Chicago, Ill.; and David Dredla of Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister and one brother. Florence's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Gallatin Rest Home for their comfort and care of Florence during the past six years. Cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be buried beside her husband in Iowa at a later date. A memorial service will be held at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Home on the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 15, time to be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 1144 N. 30th St., Billings, MT 59101; or to the charity of one's choice.
