Florence Rowley Rhoads, the daughter of William Wesley and Bertha Jane Edwards Rowley, was born on a farm in Jewell County, Kansas, Nov. 4, 1903. Florence Rowley Rhoads, the daughter of William Wesley and Bertha Jane Edwards Rowley, was born on a farm in Jewell County, Kansas, Nov. 4, 1903. She grew up on the family farm and was educated and graduated from Mankato High School in 1922. She taught school before her marriage and had also worked at the Superior Bakery for several years. Sept. 24, 1924, she was married to Milton Jonathan Rhoads in Mankato. They had one son, Roy Dean, and one daughter, Joyce. They moved to Pennsylvania and then to Baltimore, Md., before moving to Superior. Mrs. Rhoads was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Superior, had belonged to the Rebekah Lodge for many years and a member of the Valley View Club. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; Milton, who died Sept. 18, 1988; son, Roy; one sister, Twila Montgomery; and two brothers, Don and an infant. Her survivors include her daughter, Joyce Weir, Laramie, Wyo. ; brother, Walter Rowley, Republic; sister, Mrs. Ron Jones (Wilma), Centralia, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. The Rev. Jerry Dean officiated at the services and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. They had one son, Roy Dean, and one daughter, Joyce. They moved to Pennsylvania and then to Baltimore, Maryland, and then to Superior. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Superior, had belonged to Rebecca Lodge for many years and a member of the Valley View Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband who passed away on September 18, 1988; her son Roy; one sister Twila Montgomery; two brothers, Don and and infant. Her survivors include her daughter, Joyce Weir of Laramie, Wyoming; daughter-in-law, Virginia Rhoads of Superior; a brother, Walter Rowley and his wife Colleen of Republic, Kansas; a sister, Wilma Jones and her husband Ron of Centralia, Washington; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Florence passed away on January 31, 1991, at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital at the age of 87 years, two months and 27 days. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 2, 1991, at 2:00 p.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Dean officiating. Music was provided by soloist Carol Shambaugh singing "Precious Moments" and "How Great Thou Art" with Kathy Weis as organist and accompanist. Casket bearers were Reginald Rhoads, Randall Rhoads, Richard Rhoads, Scot Weir, Kirk Weir, James Zoltenko and Dean Rowley. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery near Superior.
