Floyd died October 6, 2021, in Yankton, SD. Floyd was born to Emma and Jay Kendall Sr. on August 15, 1923, in Winship, SD. After he completed his education in 1943, he left Winship to seek employment in Dawson, MN where he met his future wife, Edith Nelson. On May 16, 1944, Floyd and Edith were married at Camp Roberts in California where Floyd was stationed in the army. Floyd left for Europe to join the 28th Infantry Division and was in combat during the Battle of the Bulge. Floyd was wounded and sent to an army hospital in England where he recuperated for four months. Upon his honorable discharge from the army, he was employed by Nordling Construction in Aberdeen SD. He later became self-employed in construction in Ellendale, ND. For several years he was the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at UND Ellendale branch. Following the closure of the college, he returned to construction and later owned and operated Kendall's Home Improvement Center along with his wife. In 1985, they moved to Aberdeen, SD. His son Brian began to work with Floyd in the late 1970's and Floyd was able to continue working with Brian building spec homes, remodeling homes, and completing other projects up to the age of 88. Floyd was very punctual and efficient with his work. He had a very strong work ethic and took pride to do his very best in every project that he completed. Floyd and Edith were married almost 71 years and were blessed with three children, Linda, Kevin, and Brian. Survivors include daughter, Linda (Jim) Bailey of Rapid City SD; sons, Kevin (Vikki) Kendall of Warner SD, and Brian (Kim) Kendall of Aberdeen SD. Seven grandchildren, David (Kristy) Bailey, Jeremy (Jenny) Kendall, Jodi (Kyle) Aumer, Adam Kendall, Adrienne (Adam) Kletscher, Alexa (Jake) Krieg and Aaron Kendall; twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Survivors also include brother, Roger (Lela) Kendall of Frederick, SD and sister-in-law, Patricia Kendall of Ellendale. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Edith on February 12, 2015, three brothers, James, Edwin, and Jay; and five sisters, Ethel, Eleanor, Francis, Evelyn, and Faye. Floyd's family is very grateful for the kind, loving, and compassionate care provided to Floyd by the staff at SDHSC over the last few years.
