Read More	Son of Elmer & Martha Miller Sauerbrei Veteran of World War 2 Forrest James Sauerbrei, 90, of Waverly, Iowa, died on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the Evergreen Arbor at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. Forrest was born on February 2, 1921 on the Sauerbrei family farm east of Waverly, the son of Elmer and Martha (Miller) Sauerbrei. He graduated from high school in Brush, Colorado where the family made their home briefly from 1935-1937. He returned to live in Waverly until called to serve in the United States Army during World War II. Forrest served as a medical technician with the 74th Station Hospital in the 5th Army in North Africa and Italy. Forrest and Jane F. Brechner were united in marriage on July 24, 1942 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. They lived briefly in Des Moines and Cedar Falls before returning to settle in Waverly to raise their family. Forrest was employed by John Deere Co. in Waterloo and then by the City of Waverly where he worked for over 30 years. Forrest retried as Superintendent of the Waverly Municipal Water Department in 1984. Forrest was active in the Boy Scouts of America Troop 69 at St. Paul's Church serving as scout master and later on the Scout committee. He was awarded the Lamb Award for his years of service to the organization. Forrest was an active charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church spending many hours working on the construction of the original building, caring for the grounds and working as a member of the church council. Forrest is survived by his six children, James (Paulette) Sauerbrei of Marengo, Iowa; Ann (Larry) Pfantz of Marshalltown, Iowa; Mary (Carl) Achenbach of Anamosa, Iowa; Bill (Patty) Sauerbrei of Waterloo, Iowa; Bruce Sauerbrei of Waverly, Iowa; and Brian (Jan) Sauerbrei of Iowa Falls, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; his sister, Carrol Brase of Waterloo, Iowa and her family also. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jane on June 26, 2010; and a brother-in-law, Alfred Brase.
