Mrs. Ledvina fell on the sidewalk and broke her hip on May 4, 1955. She was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids and 10 days later returned home. She made her home with her son, Fred, on the home farm 2 miles north of Vining. After 4 weeks at home she returned to the hospital to have the new hip socket reset. She spent 4 weeks in the hospital. About a year after the injury she was able to walk again with the aid of a walker and a cane. When her son, Fred underwent surgery on Sept. 6, 1958, Mrs. Ledvina went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Breya, where she spent two months. Then she went to the home of another daughter, Mrs. Emil Sebesta in Vining where she remained until her death. At her bedside when death came were two daughters, Mary Kaufman and Julia Sebesta, and son, Fred. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, December 31, 1958, at 8:30 at HrabakÂ’s Funeral Home, and at 9:30 at Holy Trinity church. The Rev. Joseph Syrovy officiated. In charge of mass cards were Mrs. Milo Nekola, Toledo, and Mrs. Alvin Plucar, Elberon. Bearers were grandsons, Edward Ledvina, Cedar Rapids, Melvin Ledvina and Edward Kaufman, Elberon, George Hala and William Hala, Toledo, and Franklin Breya, Chelsea. Caring for the floral tributes were Miss Marcella Breya and Mrs. Charlie Musel, Chelsea and Mrs. Allan Prusha, Marshalltown. Interment was in Holy Trinity cemetery. Those attending the funeral were from Tama, Toledo, Traer, Dysart, Elberon, LeGrand, Marshalltown, Vining, Belle Plaine, Chelsea, and Cedar Rapids. Born in Czechoslovakia As Frances Chudlic, daughter of Frank and Frances Zednik Chudlic, she was born September 28, 1869, in Czechoslovakia. As a child she immigrated to the United States with her parents, the family settling on a farm near Luzerne. Frances was age 18 when she married John Ledvina in 1887. She began housekeeping on a farm near Chelsea, then lived on the farm 2 miles north of Vining. Mrs. Ledvina was a member of Holy Trinity church in Otter Creek township and the Rosary Society until her health failed 3 1/2 years ago. She was the mother of 9 children, of whom 7 are living, namely: Charles Ledvina, Belle Plaine, Mrs. Mary Kaufman, Chelsea, Mrs. Maggie Hala, Tama, Mrs. Emil (Julia) Sebesta, Vining, John and Fred Ledvina, Elberon, and Mrs. Frank (Frances) Breya, Chelsea. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren; her older sister, Mrs. Mary Duchacek, 91, Toledo, and a younger brother, Frank Chudlic of Belle Plaine. Besides her husband who died in 1935, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William, at age 31, and a daughter, Mrs. Agnes Benda.
