Read More	Gaffney Ledger obituary January 29, 2016 Frances Humphries Starnes, 87, of 546 Victory Trail Road, Gaffney, S.C. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her family. Born in Gaffney, S.C. she was the widow of the late Ray Kenfield Starnes to whom she was married for 59 years and daughter of the late Whitt Humphries and Marie Sellars Humphries. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School, attended Limestone College, formerly worked at H & R Block and Hamricks, Inc., and retired from Granard Middle School. She volunteered for the Cherokee County Election Commission, was a caterer who was well-known for her wedding and birthday cakes, and was an exceptional seamstress. She was a member of Woodmen of the World where she formerly served as secretary/treasurer, and was a member of Limestone Street United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Dale Greene and husband, Chuck, and Donna Moore and husband, Lewis, all of Gaffney; six grandchildren, Christina Greene, Anna Greene, Becky Douglas and husband, Kirk, David Moore, Laci Gunnells and husband, B. J., and Jimmy Starnes; two great-grandchildren, Seth Douglas and Emma Douglas; three sisters, Mary Beam of Gastonia, N.C., Pat Thompson and Evelyn Hughes and husband, Jim, all of Gaffney; a special pet “Sam”. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Starnes, two infant sons, three sisters, Jean Guthrie, Anne Broome and Ruby Humphries, and a brother, Joe Humphries. The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregiver, Tammy Hendricks and to the nurses and staff of Hospice Compassus. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Singleton officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Limestone Street United Methodist Church, 910 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, S.C. 29340 or to the charity of one’s choice. The family will be at the residence, 546 Victory Trail Road, Gaffney. An online guest register is available at www.blakelyfuneralhome.com.
