The San Bernardino Daily Sun (San Bernardino, CA.), P. 5, Col. 4 Tue., Jan. 25, 1921 Friends Give Miss Holcomb Bride-elect Shower Last Night Though the engagement of Miss Frances Lillian Holcomb of this city, and Allen R. Bard [Baird] of Colton has not been formally announced, a group of her friends, members of the Westminster Guild of the Presbyterian Church, did not wait for this little formality, before planning a surprise for her, and a gift shower. The event occurred last evening in the parlors of the church following the regular meeting of the guild, with the members and the patronesses, Mrs. Victor Smith, Mrs. Harriet Winston, Miss Elizabeth Beck and Mrs. Alvah Grant Fessenden, present. After a merry social time, refreshments were served from a very beautifully laid table, decorated with pink sweet peas. Corsage favors for all the guests were bouquets of the sweet peas and fern. There was a wonderful cake for the guest of honor, with a jolly Cupid in the center, and hearts and flowers for additional decorations. Sherbet was served with hot chocolate, cake and pink mints. A shower of lovely gifts was presented to Miss Holcomb, with the greetings and good wishes of her friends. The bride-elect is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Holcomb, well know residents of San Bernardino for years, who are now living at highland. The bride is a great favorite in a wide circle of friends and a member of the Westminster guild, the members of which entertained for her in so beautiful a manner last night. Mr. Bard [Baird], to whom she will be married later in the winter, is an employe in the freight offices of the Southern Pacific in Colton.
