Description	:	Francis Henry Latimer, eldest child of Lyndes and Thankful Matilda (Chapman) Latimer, migrated with his parents and siblings to Ohio. It was at Columbus that he was married on Oct. 23, 1834 to Rebecca Runkle(s), daughter of George Washington Runkle(s) and Mary McGranithan (McGranahan). Francis and Rebecca left almost immediately for the west, settling in Kosciusko County, Indiana. While living here, ten children were born into the family, two of whom (George and Harriet) died in infancy. Francis and Rebecca left almost immediately for the west, settling in Kosciusko County, Indiana. About the year 1854, the family moved on farther west, this time settling on a farm near Kewanee, in Henry County Illinois, where two more children were born. Giving in once again to a desire to move westward, they made their last move - this time to Jackson County, Kansas, where they bought a farm north of Holton. By this time the older boys had taken over the farming and Francis was free to do what he loved best - set out and grow fruit trees, becoming a skilled orchardist. Sorrow came to the family when their beloved daughter, Amanda Jane (Janie) passed away in 1871 at the age of thirteen. After the death of his wife in 1877, Francis lived with his son, Marion, and his wife, Nettie. Several other children were living nearby and he enjoyed walking to their homes where he could spend time with his grandchildren. Passing from this life on March 3, 1892, he was laid to rest in the Holton Cemetery. Left to mourn his passing were his children: Lyndes, Sarah Richards, Sophia Woodworth, Lyman, Ellen Bateman, Louise Bateman, Matilda Douglas, Marion and James, and their spouses and children. Also surviving: two brothers, James M. and Lyman L. and one sister, Hannah Sutton.
