He was born Sept. 9, 1912 at Topeka, the son of Casper and Mary Jacobs Desch, and lived most of his life in the Topeka area except for four years during World War II when he was employed by Bethlehem Steel Inc. in California. He was born Sept. 9, 1912 at Topeka, the son of Casper and Mary Jacobs Desch, and lived most of his life in the Topeka area except for four years during World War II when he was employed by Bethlehem Steel Inc. in California. Mr. Desch was a machinist for Santa Fe Railway, retiring in 1971 because of ill health. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Loyal Order of Moose, No. 555, and the International Association of Machinists, all of Topeka. He was married to Eileen Head in November 1940. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Judy Boggs, Carbondale; a son, John E. Desch, 885 Brookside; four brothers, John Desch, Sacramento, Peter Desch, 1715 E. 29th, George Desch, 1942 N. Madison, and Ray Desch, San Antonio; six sisters, Mrs. Betty Patzell, 2144 Harrison, Mrs. Catherine Hafner, 528 E. Independence, Mrs. Rose Desch, 305 Twiss, Mrs. Mary Parry, Hobbs, N.M., Mrs. Florence Negri, Wichita, and Mrs. Barbara Degenhardt, 5213 W. 27th Ter., and four grancchildren. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka. Daughters of Isabella rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., and St. Patrick Circle rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Davidson-Duff Funeral Home, Topeka. Mr. Desch will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 2003 Van Buren, Topeka.
