Description	:	Francis Marion 'Frank' Whitt was born on August 27, 1895 in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska to John Marion Whitt, Jr. and Charlotta Adelia 'Cleveland' Whitt. Read More	Francis Marion 'Frank' Whitt was born on August 27, 1895 in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska to John Marion Whitt, Jr. and Charlotta Adelia 'Cleveland' Whitt. When Frank was thirteen years old his mother died, and the five children were scattered to the four winds. They were Frank, Lloyd, Lillie May, Charles and Clarence. Frank and his father John Marion Jr. moved in with the Wagners in a boarding house just across the street from the gas station in Albion, Nebraska. Frank went to work selling papers and shining shoes to earn his own living. Frank left Albion at the age of seventeen to enlist in the military service. He served in the Mexican Outbreak and in WWI in; Colorado CPL 3 CO 164 DEPOT BRIG WORLD WAR I Frank served in the US Army and was stationed in Texas. The Mexicans were coming across the borders and raiding in Texas. Franks's unit was called up to serve under General Pershing to calm the outbreak. He was also a training Sergeant in Texas. Frank married Katherine Whitt and from this union one son Glenn was born. Katherine died from a miscarriage when she was five months pregnant in Sterling, Colorado. Frank worked for the State Patrol in Sterling Colorado. After his first wife's death he returned to Nebraska. It was there that he met and married Elizabeth Cecilia 'Alice' McCready / Wilson. From this union was born five children; Francis J. 'Fritz', Catherine A., Patricia L., William P., and Ronald U. He tried to keep in touch with his brother Charlie by letters for fifty years, but never got an answer. The letters were all put away and one day Charlie discovered the letters while rummaging through old papers in the attic fifty years after his mother had died. Charlie immediately got in touch with Frank and they got together for a reunion with three of the four brothers in 1958. A sister, Lillian Mae, died in 1928. Another sister that should be mentioned was Florence, that died at the age of four from pneumonia. Francis Marion 'Frank' Whitt was Post Commander of N. 347 and was given the Recognition of Loyal and Efficient Service from, The American Legion Department, through the active co-operation of post official and members he had established in 1940. Frank owned a shoe shop in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska in 1934. This advertisement for the store was put in the paper. The following was taken from the: Albion Newspaper Albion Nebraska THREE BROTHERS GOT TOGETHER HERE AFTER BEING SCATTERED NEARLY FIFTY YEARS AGO Three brothers got together last week for the first time in nearly fifty years - since their mother Mrs. John M. Whitt died in Albion in 1909 and the five children were scattered to the four winds. They are Lloyd Whitt of Albion, Nebraska, Frank M. Whitt of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska and Charles W. Maloney of Henderson, Nevada. Another brother, Clarence Whitt recently moved from Cedar Rapids to Spokane, Washington and couldn't be here. A sister, Lillie Mae, died in 1928; and another sister, Florence, died three years before their mother. Charlie was paying his first visit to Albion, Nebraska in nearly a half-century. He lived with a family near here a few months, then was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Maloney. He works for Manganese, Inc., and decided to come to Nebraska on his vacation to see his brothers. Lloyd lived with a number of foster parents through his youth and now lives at the south edge of Albion, Nebraska. Frank, who was thirteen and the oldest child in the family, went to work selling papers and shining shoes to earn his own living. He says, " I adopted Mrs. Frank Thompson as my 'godmother' and went to her for the advice needed by a thirteen-year-old 'bachelor'." Frank lived in Albion many years, before moving to Cedar Rapids. Clarence went to live with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and MrsT.G. Caudel of Grand Island, at the age of four months. Later they moved to Sterling, Colorado to take a homestead. Says Frank " It was a sad experience for every one of us children. I believe young people of today should know how orphans were treated in those days, and appreciate their parents." In the 1910 Census John Marion Whitt Jr. age 41 and Francis 'Frank' Marion Whitt age 14 were living in the household of Peter R. Wagner age 44 in Albion, Ward 2, Boone County, Nebraska. Also living in the household were; N Ella Wagner age 40, Blanch I. Wagner age 18, Rebecca M. Wagner age 16, Anna A. Wagner age 15, Ethel L. Wagner age 12 and Ben I. Wagner age 10.
