Description	:	Francis "Frank" William Henderson was the son of Thomas Henderson and Anna Maria Truxtun. He was an attorney and married twice. First to Mary St. Clair Crawford in 1858 and widowed, he married second to Maria Elizabeth Hamilton in 1884. Could not locate Frank on the 1860 Virginia or any census. On 10 Sep 1860 a new Preparatory Classical and Mathematical School is opening in Staunton, Augusta Co., VA. It appears that Chas. D McCoy and Francis W Henderson will be leading it. He was an attorney and married twice. First to Mary St. Clair Crawford in 1858 and widowed, he married second to Maria Elizabeth Hamilton in 1884. The same ad is run multiple times including (posted herein) and many more in July and August. Published in the Staunton Spectator (VA) dated 17Jul 1860. NOTICE. Captain Francis "Frank" William Henderson served Virginia in the PACS, ACS from 1861 to 1865. He was posted at Staunton and Lexington. Military Order of the Stars and Bars, Springfield, Tennessee. United States Confederate Officers Card Index, 1861-1865 transcription (see photo). Capt. F. W. Henderson, CSA, was one of many pallbearers at the funeral of General Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson. Stonewall died on 10 May 1863, in Guinea, VA and his body arrived in Lexington, VA, by a packet boat. His body was taken to his lecture room at the Virginia Military Institute where he was a Professor of physics and artillery tactics. It had been abandoned by him to serve in the war and was reportedly placed as he left them. The details are in the Staunton Vindicator, dated 29 May 1863, from the Lexington Gazette (see photo). On the 1870 Lexington, VA census, I found lawyer F W Henderson, 45; Mary S Henderson, 41; Maud Henderson, 1, all VA born. Plus laborer Peter Johnson, 45; house keeper Malinda Johnson, 30; Melchizedee Johnson, 10; Delphinia Johnson, 6; Virginia Johnson, 8 and Nancy Brown, 70, all VA born. On the 1880 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found widowed boarder and lawyer, Frank W Henderson, 50. He was born in the Dist. of Columbia and his dad in New Jersey and mom in Virginia. He was boarding at an unnamed hotel, run by George Pettigrew. 25 June 1884, Francis W. Henderson, 54, born Georgetown, D.C., living in Lexington, Gentleman, son of T. Henderson & A. M. Henderson, married Maria E. Hamilton, 29, single, born Oldfield Pt., Long Island, NY, living in Lexington, daughter of A. & E.S. Hamilton, married in Lexington, R.J. McBryde, officiating. (Related to Alexander Hamilton, Maria was born in Jan 1855) Rockbridge Co., VA Marriages 1851-1883, Louise M. Perkins. The History of South Carolina, Vol. 3, edited by Yates Snowden and Harry G. Cutler, 1920 has a bio on Hon. Raven I. McDavid. Born 16 Oct 1883. It says he married Marie Louis Henderson of Lexington, VA, the daughter of Francis W. Henderson and Maria Hamilton. They had 3 kids: Raven I McDavid, Jr, Marie Hamilton McDavid and Elizaeth Schuyler McDavid. Daughter Mary L. V. H. Henderson was born on 17 Sep 1886 in Rockbridge Co., VA to Frank W. Henderson and M E Henderson. Frances W Henderson was born about 1825 to parents Thos and Annie M Henderson. He was married to M E Henderson. He died age 62 on 27 Oct 1887 in Rockbridge Co., VA. Henderson, 1868-1956, Deaconess in China 1903-1946 #2 Mary Henderson, died 20 Jun 1871 (is this his 1st wife, Mary S?) #4 is Francis above Maude T Henderson, born 1868 was a passenger in 1946 (aged 78) in Seattle Washington aboard the Marine Phoenix. (Was she returning from China?) An obituary for him was not located with available sources. marker says: FRANCIS W.
