Description	:	ASHTON, FRANK B.—Frank B. Ashton, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Newton) Ashton, was born at Glenwood, Ia., March 6, 1871. He died at York, Neb., October 22, 1939, aged 68 years, 7 months and 16 days. He came with his parents to Fillmore county in an early day. He was married October 18, 1893 to Cora L. On retiring from office he went into... Read More	ASHTON, FRANK B.—Frank B. Ashton, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Newton) Ashton, was born at Glenwood, Ia., March 6, 1871. He died at York, Neb., October 22, 1939, aged 68 years, 7 months and 16 days. He came with his parents to Fillmore county in an early day. He was married October 18, 1893 to Cora L. Brooke of Chelsea township. To this union were born two sons, Thomas E. and Hurbert L. In 1910 Mr. Ashton was elected sheriff, in which office he served the county efficiently for seven years. On retiring from office he went into the monument business in Geneva, continuing in that line since and also in recent years operating a monument works at York. Mr. Ashton is survived by his wife, his son, Thomas E., wife, and daughter Jo Ann of Gardena, Cal., his son, Hurbert L. and son Charles of Provo, Utah, and daughters Courtney Sue and Mary Jo of Lincoln, two brothers, Charles of Geneva, and Lee of Los Angeles, and a sister, Mrs. Ella Geer of Los Angeles. The funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon, October 25, at 2:30 p. m. at the Hrubesky funeral home, Rev. William Kilburn officiating. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. He was preceded in death by an elder brother, Isaac, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Garnett, and Mrs. Anna Smith; and a daughter-in-law, Marion, wife of Hurbert L. Ashton. Mr. Ashton was widely known and had many firm friends. During his long residence in this community, he rendered many helpful services and was always active in civic betterment. ASHTON HAS FATAL HEART ATTACK Geneva citizens were shocked Sunday morning when word came from York that Frank B. Ashton had been found dead there. Death apparently occurred around 4:30 a. m. The body was found on the sidewalk a short distance south of the Burlington underpass about 6 a. m. by a newsboy. Mr. Ashton, who operates a monument works at York, as well as the one at Geneva, had gone to York about 4 p.m. Saturday on business. He had stayed there all night and had apparently risen early as he had arranged to go hunting the next morning with Geneva friends. A heart attack caused his death, supposedly while he was on his way to get breakfast. Sheriff Brock of York notified Sheriff Steinacher, who went to York. A brother-in-law, Lyman Brooke, also was summoned to York. Mrs. Ashton had accompanied her sisters, Mrs. Maude Stringfield and Miss Belle Shires, to Grand Island Friday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Voigtlander.
