He was born to Francis and Delia Champagne Wood on Nov. 26, 1913, in the log house on the corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Dakota Ave., built by his father in the late 1800?s. Wood, 90, longtime Libby resident, died on June 22, 2004, in Olympia, Wash. He was born to Francis and Delia Champagne Wood on Nov. 26, 1913, in the log house on the corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Dakota Ave., built by his father in the late 1800?s. Frank attended Libby schools but left during his junior year in high school to help support his family by working odd jobs. He worked through the night at a local bakery and made deliveries during the day. He completed his senior year by attending classes part time and graduated with the Class of 1933. After graduation Frank worked with his brother George in the hardware department of the Kootenai Mercantile. He married Marguerite (Mickey) Reedy of Libby on July 16, 1941. Frank served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a flight engineer and navigator at a training base in Enid, Okla. He returned to Libby after the war and worked for J. Neils Lumber Company for a few years before going into business with his brother Ernie. Frank went back to work for J. Neils as a logging truck driver, a job he held until retiring in the winter of 1978. He served on the city council for two terms in the late 1950?s and also was a volunteer fireman, serving with brothers George and Ernie. Frank was a member of the American Legion and active with the Knights of Columbus. An avid outdoorsman, Frank enjoyed hunting and fishing and taught his children and grandchildren to fish. Every year he would spend a week with his brothers and nephews at a hunting cabin to hunt and share stories. He called it "swapping lies." He loved to care for his vegetable garden and took a special interest in raising roses. He also knew his way around the kitchen and taught his daughters to cook. An excellent woodworker, Frank built a variety of things from small furniture and cabinetry to his residence, affectionately called ?the house that Frank built.? He was preceded in death by his wife Mickey. Survivors include his children Mark Wood and Neil Wood of Anchorage, Alaska; Ellen Wood Reffner and her husband Wayne and Mary Wood and her partner Barbara Hanneman in Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren Patrick and Karen Reffner, Edgewood, Wash., Joe and Lisa Reffner, Spokane, Kenna Wood, New Orleans, Jennifer Wood Lacugnato and her husband Rob, Litchfield Park, Ariz., Melisa Wood Denslow and her husband David, Anchorage; great-grandchildren Carl Reffner, Spokane, Ysabella Wood, New Orleans, and Alex Reffner, Edgewood, and many well-loved nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation is from 1-6 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by Rosary at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home. Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
