He was a son of the late Fokke and Heike (Schoon) Johnson. His father died when he was a young man, and he emigrated to the United States with his mother, October 18, 1885. They settled in Wayne township, where Mr. Johnson secured a position assisting on thc Harm Helgens farm. He was a son of the late Fokke and Heike (Schoon) Johnson. His father died when he was a young man, and he emigrated to the United States with his mother, October 18, 1885. They settled in Wayne township, where Mr. Johnson secured a position assisting on thc Harm Helgens farm. Mr. Johnson was married to Gesena Johnson at Zion's Lutheran church in Wayne township, February 25. 1892. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. Mardorf. At the time of his marriage Mr. Johnson was engaged in farming operations for himself, on a farm south of Amber. He and his wife lived on this farm until 1895, when they rmoved to the farm home three miles from the Jones county line, in Linn county. Mr. Johnson continued to make this farm his home until his removal to Monticello, when he purchased the property formerly belonging to the Sacred Heart parish. He lived in that home for eight years, and throe years ago returned to his farm in Linn county, which he has operated since that time. His daughters, Helen and Tolatto, have occupied the Monticello home since the removal of their parents from this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson became the parents of seven children. The two eldest of whom were born on the farm near Amber, and the five younger children on the Linn county farm. They are as follows: Helen E. Monticello; George J., Kansas City, Missouri; Anna (Mrs. Foster Hard, Port Washington, Ohio; John F.,of the home: Tolatto, Monticello; Frederick II. and Gesina. who are living at home. Mr. Johnson is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Matilda Husman, of Scotch Grove: John Johnson, of Onslow; Mrs. Lena Englebarts, of Amber; Ecke Johnson, of Buckhorn, Germany; George Johnson, of Grinnell; Mrs. Fred Otten, of Scotch Grove, and Anton Johnson, of Monticello. Throughout his life, Mr. Johnson was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church. When a small child, he was baptized in this church, and was continued in the Lutheran faith in the month of April, 1875, at Renels, Germany. He was a firm believer in the teachings of his church ond was a generous contributor to its activities. Short funeral services will be held it the family home in Monticello next Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Final services will be held at 1:15 at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church. These services will be in charge ot Rev. Henry L. Adix, pastor of St. Matthew's church, assisted by S. M. Ide of Bellevue, former pastor of the local church. Burial will be made at Oakwood cemetery. Mr. Johnson was an intelligent and forceful man. He well illustrated in his life the reward that comes to those who give prudent and careful attention to business, and who take advantage of the opportunities given to those who strive to be thrifty, and build for the future. He leaves the record of having been blessed with a good family and a great many friends.
