Main street and at 2:30 o'clock from the Gospel Tabernacle. The pall bearers were all friends of the family and brother lodge members from the Redmen, of the deceased. They were Messer. Bert Swick, John Rose, Arthur Airhart, Wm. Booth, Clarence Starks and Harry Stump. At the gospel Tabernacle the Rev. J.C. Crawford assisted by the Rev. R. Burton Sheppard; had charge of the services. Rev. Crawford chose as his text, a quotation from Zachariah 2:4 which reads: "Run Speak to This Young Man" and developed a consoling sermon for the many friends and relatives. A make quartette composed of Messrs. Beghtol, Dirks, Hall and Mathson, students at the Biblical College, sang four songs selected by the family. Fred was a member of the local militia, Co. I, being first sergeant, and the company attended in full uniform, accompanying their dead comrade to his last resting place. An escort of Red Men also attended in a body. The interment was in Rose Hill cemetery and was made with full military honors, the company firing three volleys and sounding the taps which mark the setting of the sun in this life. The many friends attending and the beautiful floral gifts were marks of the esteem in which he was held in this community. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of all in this bereavement. Fred Arthur Ford was born at Star, Nebraska, Nov. 1, 1891, making him at the time of his death 23 years, 6 months and 6 days of age. When only an infant he came to Boone county with his parents and made his home here ever since. He attended the public schools and grew to young manhood. For a time he was employed by the Boone Blank Book Company, but in a short time took up drain work contracting. He was engaged in this kind of work at the time of his death. Fred had been working near Buffalo Center all winter, putting in a county drain and on this particular afternoon his companion had left him and was gone about a half hour. When he came back he saw where the ditch had caved in and upon investigation found his partner dead. The dirt had caught him in such a manner as to break his neck. He leaves to mourn his demise his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ford, and three brothers, namely Sam, Albert and Walter, and two sisters, Pearl and Maude. The death of this young man was a shock to the community and from every side words of sympathy are being extended the bereaved family.
