Fred Cornelius Haan was born on November 28, 1928, on a farm south of Chancellor, SD, the son of Alfred and Florence (DeNeui) Haan. Haan, 89, Chancellor, SD, died Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls. SD. Fred Cornelius Haan was born on November 28, 1928, on a farm south of Chancellor, SD, the son of Alfred and Florence (DeNeui) Haan. He grew up northeast of Chancellor, attended rural school and Chancellor Public School. Fred was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 11, 1951 and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on April 11, 1953. After his military service he began farming on the family farm near Chancellor. On September 19, 1953 he married Clarice Fossum at the West Prairie Lutheran Church of rural Lennox. The couple made their home on the family farm northeast of Chancellor. Fred was an active and faithful member of the Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, a Deacon, the Church Treasurer and the Sunday School Treasurer. He was also a 4-H Leader and had served on the Chancellor School Board. He was preceded in death by his mother on October 23, 1973, his father on March 18, 1994; brothers: David in infancy, Wayne in 1999, Daniel in 2005, James 2009, his twin brother Frank in 2011 and Donald in 2015. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of over 65 years, Clarice; four children: Rev. Floyd (Janice) Haan, Pollock, SD, Jeffrey (Charlene) Haan, Davis, SD, Kerwin (Vera) Haan, Lennox, SD and Caren Haan, Big Springs, NE; grandchildren: Rev. Matthew (Holly) Haan, Rock Valley, IA, Mark (Kristin) Haan, Sioux Center, IA, Luke Haan, Sioux Falls, John (Jacqueline) Haan, Sioux Falls, Rachel Mattson, Davis, Jonathan (Tasha) Haan, Sioux Falls, Pamela (Ryan) Klenner, Sioux Falls, Andrew Haan, Chancellor, Jason (Brittany) Haan, Chancellor, Theodore (Chynna) Bonander, Big Springs, NE and Amanda (Brian) Wittmeier, Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Titus, Ezra and Andrew James Haan, McKenzie and Jessa Mattson, Brenna, Julia and Henry Haan, Marshall and Dallas Bonander, Ava and Beau Wittmeier, Eleanor Haan, Lyra Haan and Abigail Klenner; siblings: Rose Haan, Lennox and Dick (Karen) Haan, Minneapolis as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
