Keith Pearson officiating. Burial was in Eden Valley Cemetery near Plainview. Pallbearers were Scott Lortz, Mike Lortz, Jason Lortz, Steve Lortz, John Lortz and Rick Walton. Fred Lortz was born Jan. 25, 1905, in Pierce County to Philipp and Elizabeth (Schafer) Lortz and passed away on Nov. 4, 1992, at the Plainview Public Hospital. On Nov. 9, 1927, he was married to Gladys Hartstock at Eden Valley Immanuel Lutheran Church. He farmed in the Eden Valley area until moving to Plainview in 1952. At that time he began employment at Carhart Lumber. Later he was employed by the City of Plainview and worked at the light plant for over 20 years, retiring at the age of 78. He also did carpentry work for many friends and neighbors in the community. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Donald; a daughter, Joan; and a sister, Margaret Perry. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, of Plainview; two sons, Dale of McCook and Gary of Omaha; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry, of Ames, IA; and other relatives and friends.
