She was laid to rest at Eden Valley Cemetery. Rev. Marcille Jensen officiated. Pallbearers were Steve Lortz, Scott Lortz, Stacy Stanley, Kim Schnakenberg, Mike Lortz, Jason Lortz and Kathy Van Meter. Lortz was born on April 17, 1908 in Knox County and died on April 1, 2008 at Millard Good Samaritan Center in Millard. She was 99 years old. After marrying Fred Lortz in 1927, the couple lived on a farm northeast of Plainview and had four children. In 1952 the couple moved to Plainview, the town Lortz called home for more than 50 years. She worked at the Plainview Florist for more than 25 years and was an active member of the ELCA Lutheran Church. Lortz was always very active and had many hobbies. Some of her favorite activities included singing in the choir, playing bingo, cooking and helping in the kitchen. She was able to continue enjoying these activities at the Millard Good Samaritan Center, where she lived for five years. Lortz made quite an impression on all of those she came in contact with. One of the Good Samaritan staff members described her as a mother figure. Through the years she remained close to her family and enjoyed more than anthing spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family had planned a 100th birthday party in her honor. While they feel disappointed they will not be with her for this milestone event, they believe she will be celebrating in a larger and more beautiful place. Lortz is preceded in death bytwo children, son, Don, and daughter, Joan. She is survived by two children, Gary and Dale; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be made to the Millard Good Samaritan home in Omaha.
