After partially recovering from a severe attack of pneumonia, Fred G. Benson, one of Helena's best known business men, was stricken with a sudden attack of heart failure and died at his home, 1814 Livingston Avenue, at 6 o'clock last evening. Mr. Benson would have been 60 years old had he lived until January 17. Mr. Benson was taken sick with pneumonia three weeks ago and was confined to his home for two weeks. Last week he had improved so much that he took a short walk about the streets. His condition, however, was such that he was again compelled to take to his bed, and his condition had been serious until he was stricken with heart failure last evening. Mr. Benson was born in Salt Lake 60 years ago and came to Montana in 1881. He came to Helena in 1883, and for many years has been senior member of the Benson-Carpenter Company. He was a member of the republican party and served in the lower house of the state legislature during the eighth session. He also served the Sixth Ward in the city council for two terms. He is survived by his widow, a daughter, Greta, now attending the state college of Utah; a brother H.S. Benson, who was associated with him in the fuel and storage business; a brother, W.C. Benson at Pony, Mont.; a brother, B.Y. Benson in Trenton, Utah, and two sisters, Mrs. W.B. Parkinson and Mrs. E.R. Owens, both residents of Logan, Utah. Mr. Benson was a member of the Elks Lodge, 193; the Odd Fellows Lodge, and the Woodmen of the World. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made.
