Description	:	Fred was the son of Henry William Figert and Alice L Whiteman. He married Laura Cornelia Houghtelin on 25 August 1904 in Minburn, Dallas Co, Iowa. They were the parents of Frederick McMiller and Francis Marie. July 3, 1913 - F. H. Figert, of Marathon, passed away at the hospital at Des Moines Friday afternoon. The remains were shipped to Carroll Sunday and then conveyed by undertaker Hopkins, of Lake City to the home of Dan Lasher in Sheridan township. Figert, of Marathon, passed away at the hospital at Des Moines Friday afternoon. The remains were shipped to Carroll Sunday and then conveyed by undertaker Hopkins, of Lake City to the home of Dan Lasher in Sheridan township. The funeral services were held at the Lasher home at three o'clock Monday afternoon. After the services the body was laid to rest in the family lot in Mount Hope cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by the pastor of Marathon and were attended by a large number of friends and neighbors who gathered to show the last tribute of love and respect to one they had known from boyhood. The deceased leaves besides his wife and two children, three sisters, Mesdames John Whelan, Dan Lasher and Miss Grace Figert all of this county, and a half brother who is residing in South Dakota also an innumerable host of friends to mourn his departure. Fred grew to manhood in this county. He decided to prepare himself for the profession of teaching and took a course at the Iowa State Teachers College. Since his graduation he has filled a number of places as superintendent of schools. He was a capable man and his services were sought by the localities who wanted a man who was above the average educator. His work at Marathon was of the best, he was more than meeting the expectation of all when death called him from his chosen work. Several years ago he was urged by his friends and neighbors to enter the race for the nomination for the office of county superintendent on the Democratic ticket. The only thing that prevented his nomination was that he was not as well known in the western and southern part of the county as he was in the eastern and central part. The bereaved family, sisters and brothers have the heartfelt sympathy during this sad hour of bereavement. The Marathon Republic of last week says: Superintendent F H Figerts condition grew steadily worse last week and on Saturday morning he was taken to the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines to be ready for surgical aide should it be necessary. He was accompanied by Mrs. Figert, Mrs. Goodwin, sister of the latter, and by Dr. Kelley. it appears that the ailment, a form of systemic poisoning resulting from the tonsillitis, has settled in his foot and it has been feared it will be necessary to amputate the member. Reports from his bedside yesterday were to the effect that as yet there were hopes the limb might be saved. A close watch of developments is kept to prevent any spread of the condition. His suffering has been intense and relief much of the time is secured only through the use of opiates. His friends hope to hear soon of a decided turn for the better in his condition. The children, Fredrick & Francis are staying with Mr & Mrs Dumbaugh.
