Whiteman on 30 OCT 1871 in DeKalb, IL. They were the parents of John, Fred, Nellie (Lasher), Edith Pearl (Whelan), and Grace May. Carroll Times and Carroll Sentinel - Thursday, September 12, 1912 - Henry W. Figert was born at Erie, Pennsylvania, October 21, 1841, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dan Lasher, September 5, 1912, aged 70 years, 10 months and 15 days. He was married at DeKalb, Illinois, to Alice L. Whiteman, October 30, 1871, who departed this life on January 20, 1908. The children left to mourn the deceased are J.M. Figert of Fedora, South Dakota; F.H. Figert of Marathon, Iowa; Nellie O. Lasher, E. Pearl Whelan and Grace May Figert of Sheridan township. F.W. Figert was of a family of seven children, three of which are deceased, Philip, Amelia and Caroline. Those living are Mrs. Margaret Hurd of Chicago; Mrs. Wm. Bivens of Elgin, Illinois; Mrs. Elizabeth Lowe of Sycamore, Illinois. He moved with his parents to DeKalb, Illinois, where he resided until March 1885, at which time he moved with his family to Calhoun county, Iowa; the following year he moved to Sheridan township, Carroll county, Iowa, where he has since resided. On October 8, 1906, he sustained a stroke of paralysis which deprived him of his speech, also the use of his right side, from this affliction he never recovered. He was a patient sufferer, an industrious and frugal farmer, a pood neighbor, a kind father and a man of high ideals and principles. He was one of the citizens of Sheridan township whose upright business transactions and incorruptible integrity have won him the esteem of all with whom he has dealings. The funeral was conducted from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lasher at 10 o'clock Sunday, September 8. The sermon was preached by Rev. Grundy of Auburn and the singing was furnished by a mixed quartet from Auburn. Those from a distance were: J.M. Figert and wife of Fedora, South Dakota; Supt. F.H. Figert, wife and children of Marathon, Iowa; Mr. Wallie Hollister and Mr. and Mrs. J. Andrews of Audubon. Among the profusion of floral offerings were a bouquet of carnations presented by Grace Figert's Sunday School class and a beautiful bouquet of pink and white roses presented by the teachers of the Marathon Central schools.
