Herre The Fremont Tribune January 17, 1906 Funeral of Fred Herre Held from Residence of His Father on Logan Street The body of Fred Herre arrived at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon from Carroll, Ia., and the funeral was held at 2:30 this afternoon from the residence of his father, C. F. Herre, 437 Logan street. The service was conducted by Rev. W. H. Buss of the First Congregational church and was largely attended. Members of the Masonic fraternity acted as pallbearers. Interment was at Ridge cemetery. The deceased was a former Fremont boy, and afterwards lived at Hooper, going from the latter place to Carroll, Ia. He was a prominent resident of these places and held important municipal offices. The cause of his demise was typhoid fever. He had been ill about three weeks at St. Anthony's hospital at Carroll. He is survived by a wife and three children. Besides these are the relatives here; the father, two brothers, Robert and C. H. Herre, and five sisters, Mrs. J. T. Hairhouse, Mrs. John Cloos and Mrs. Albert Sanders of this city; Mrs. Edward Uehling of Hooper, Mrs. Helmer Steen of Sioux City. - - -- -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - History of the Elkhorn Valley Page 419 Fred J. Herre, a resident of Hooper, came to Dodge County in the spring of 1875, in company with his parents, who located at Fremont, where the father was engaged in the tailoring business. Our subject remained at home until he was nineteen years of age, at which time he went into the printing office of the Fremont Herald, and followed that business for four years, after which he spent some time in Osceola, and went from there to O'Neil, Holt County, where he opened a barber shop. He remained there until 1885, and then removed to Hooper, where he has held the office of justice of the peace for four years. He of whom we write this biographical notice was born in New Jersey, in 1864, the son of Fred, and Mary Herre, natives of Germany, who were the parents of thirteen children; Charles H., Mary M., Fred J. Jr., Charlotte, Robert M., Amanda, Emily, Rosa, Gussie. Four of the family died in infancy. The family lived in New Jersey until 1875, when they came to Fremont. In the month of May, 1884, our subject was united in marriage to Susan, daughter of John and Mary Crome, of Germany, whose six children were named as follows: John, Christ, William, Susan, Delia, Lizzie. Our subject and his wife are the parents of three children; Robert, born in 1886; Rosa, born in 1889, and Mamie, born in 1890. Politically, Mr. Herre believes in the principles of the Democratic party, and in religious matter both he and his wife are Lutherans. He - - - -
